Covering the Beautiful Game in the City Beautiful

Orlando-area High School Grads: Celebrate with Orlando City TONIGHT!

Congratulations to the graduating seniors of Central Florida! Today was the last day of school for seniors in Orange County; don’t know about the other area districts.

The perfect way to celebrate would be to come out tonight to the Citrus Bowl to party with your Orlando City Soccer Club!

The team plays at 7:30pm, against the Richmond Kickers. In addition, you’re welcome to Lot L (SE of the stadium) with The Ruckus for their tailgate.

Tickets start at $12 for the general-admission supporters section, which is the entire south side of the bowl.

Dr. Phillips striker and Tulsa commit Follensbee scores 10 in two games

As some of you may not know, I volunteer to do public address for various sports at Dr. Phillips High School. Among these sports is soccer, including our impressive men’s soccer team, coached by math teacher Joel Dobrowolski.

One of our most highly-touted student-athletes is striker Bryce Follensbee. Originally a two-sport star, he recently gave up gridiron football due to injury, and decided to focus on soccer, which he was already much more touted for anyway.

This week, he’s had one of the most impressive string of games any soccer player, anywhere, has ever had.

He scored 10 goals between two games. He scored six against Evans, and four against Apopka.

The latter is a golden sombrero, but I don’t think there’s a nickname for six goals in a game. Personally, I like to call it an “egg carton”, inspired by the cut-off cartons for a half-dozen eggs.

If you’re looking for a striker for your college team, you can forget it. He’s already committed to get a scholarship from Tulsa.

(Those games, BTW, ended 12-0 and 8-0, respectively.)

Are you ready to enlist?
